ADAMS
One of the sons of William & Sarah ADAMS nee LINSLEY of Windsor NSW, George Richard ADAMS (born 13/6/1852) (have cert) married (have cert) Sept 1872 Eleanor GORDON (born 17/10/52) daughter of Ann WHITELEY and George Augustus GORDON. The family all thought of her as Eleanor MAYBURY as her mother married William Charles MAYBURY in 1854.
George Richard ADAMS was a saddler who settled in Orange with Eleanor, a milliner, and they raised nine children: Amelia (m Joseph Popple), George, Sydney, Alfred, Sarah (known as Ellie)m John Wheeler, Anita (married William Leslie Young) - this is our direct ancestor, Mabel Gertrude (m Harry Trainer), Ivy (m Mr Britter) and Clarence.

Our William ADAMS was a convict who came to Australia on the "Susan" in 1836. His wife Sarah Jane LINSLEY was the daughter of convicts John Richard LINSLEY who came out on the renowned 'typhus ship' "Surrey" in 1814 and Elizabeth CLARK convict who came out on the "Mary Ann" in 1822.
John LINSLEY had previously married a fifteen year old freeborn girl (daughter of convicts) Jane MCINTOSH in 1921, however she died a year later - no children.
George Richard ADAMS used
to tell his granddaughter Jean Eleanor YOUNG that her olive complexion
and dark hair reminded him of his 'mother's family who came from
the hills of Wales', where there were gypsies. Still following up
on this one.

Rosina CRAGO

born on 22nd July 1846 at Shoreditch Middlesex England to Thomas CRAGO
and wife Eliza(beth) CRAGO nee WILLIAMS. (have cert). At that
time the family lived at 3 Cropers Buildings, Charles Street . Rosina
CRAGO worked at the Arundel Castle in Sussex and in 1863 gave birth
to Frances Jane. She was known as Frances Jane HOCKING..
In 1866 Rosina CRAGO married Edwin HOCKING in Truro Cornwall.Two
other children were born - Edward HOCKING in 1866 and Ellen Louisa
HOCKING in 1867.
DEGENHARDT
Lillian
Alma DEGENHARDT was the daughter of John Alfred William DEGENHARDT
who
was born in 1890 in London England (parents were William John DEGENHARDT
and Clara Louisa COOK (marriage 1889 Mile End London) , both of
England according to his marriage certificate). He married Jacqueline
Edith STEFFANI (born Giacomina Edith Steffani) in NSW in 1920.
John
Alfred William DEGENHARDT served in the AIF in the First World War.

GORDON father of Eleanor GORDON born 21st September 1852
in Windsor, NSW Australia. Eleanor's mother is listed as Ann WHITELAY
(or Ann WHITELEY) of Windsor (have birth cert). Ann WHITELEY
went on to marry William Charles MAYBURY two years later and gave
permission, as Ann MAYBURY, mother of the bride, for the marriage
of Eleanor GORDON to George Richard ADAMS in 1872.
We are keen to find out about George Augustus Gordon, as this may be where
our Gypsy ancestry has come from - or not!!. (See ADAMS above)
GOULDSON
We are still looking for the correct

GOULDSON born c1830 Suffolk who married Hannah (or Ann) WILLIAMS who was born Truro Cornwall c1834. This
James
GOULDSON was at one stage a soldier in the British Army. They were the parents
of Edward GOULDSON born 1864 Hampshire(called Ned), our first
Gouldson relative
to come to Australia in 1891.
Ned settled at Katamatite where he
married (20.3.1892) a widow Frances Jane HEYME nee HOCKING
with three young children (Edwin Charles Heyme - known as Charlie,
Harry Heyme and Rosina Heyme). We have copy
marriage certificate for Edward and Frances. Their son James GOULDSON
born
1900 married Doris Emily Lottie ALLEN,

(born 1931) married Janet HARVEY

In our family is an
Emma Alice
HALL who married William Edward SYMONDS (1875 Castlemaine) and
they lived in the Maryborough area of Victoria. (Have marriage cert).
William & Emma's daughter
Alice May SYMONDS married Albert Harvey.
Sisters and brothers of Emma Alice Hall included Annie Hall, Louisa Hall,
Mary Ann Hall, Stephen Hall and William Thomas Hall. Their parents
are listed as Stephen Keele HALL and Eliza MILLS.

Ernest Edward HARVEY
(passed away 01.09.2000 - 93 years) was first son of Albert HARVEY
and
Alice May HARVEY (nee SYMONDS). Albert’s brothers were
Thomas
HARVEY and William HARVEY and their parents were Thomas HARVEY
and
Mary Ann HARVEY nee Leggo who married in 1872. Thomas and
Mary Ann
had a goldmine at Bullumwaal and are buried in the Bairnsdale
Cemetery. (Thomas Harvey, who died 7th March 1911 aged
60 years; also Mary Ann Harvey,
died 31st September 1934 aged 80 years.) The
Harvey family
lived at Bairnsdale and Mt Taylor. Thomas HARVEY’s parents were
John
HARVEY and Ruth HARVEY nee Ruth MARTIN and he Thomas, was born in Cornwall.
HOCKING
Our great great grandparents were
Edwin
& Rosina HOCKING nee CRAGO who came to Katamatite in 1891 to live
with their daughter Frances Jane GOULDSON formerly HEYME nee HOCKING).
Edwin and Rosina had two other children (refer Crago above). We also have
Edwin snr's parents details (born England). The Hockings and Cragos
lived in Cornwall and go back to 16th century there. However it appears
that our bloodline doesn't travel back through the Hocking family, as Rosina
Crago didn't marry Edwin Hocking until almost three years after her daughter
was born.
KIMPTON
Update - we have further information back a couple of generations - Email us. Found are parents
and birth details of James KIMPTON who married Hannah SPRAWSON
in England. They came out to Australia and settled in South Australia sometime
in 1849 on the Stebonheath. Their first son Edmund KIMPTON was
born at Finchley Common in Middlesex London in 1835 as were two daughters,
Fanny and Annie, and after the family came to Australia they had fourth
child James Abraham KIMPTON, born South Australia. Edmund
KIMPTON married
Jane COMBS (also of England - Aston Juxta
Birmingham in Warwick) daughter of John COMBS and Ann COMBS nee HARTLEY)
in 1856 at Castlemaine, Victoria. We have copy Marriage certificate of
Edmund and Jane.

Mary Ann LEGGO was born at sea c 1854 to Edward LEGGO (miner) and Mary LEGGO (nee Mary BENNETTS). We have the Leggo family going back quite a while in Cornwall 1500s in fact. Mary Ann LEGGO was a tailoress and she married Thomas HARVEY at Soldier's Hill Ballarat in Oct 1872. We have marriage certificate of Thomas and Mary Ann. Thomas HARVEY was a son of John HARVEY and Ruth HARVEY nee MARTIN. They were from St Just, Cornwall. (Refer Harvey above)

In our family tree is Ann WHITELEY
who married William Charles Maybury in 1854 in New South Wales.
They had children named William, Francis, Elizabeth, Alfred, Sydney,
Edwin, Henry, Ann, Mary, Charles and Sarah.
Ann had previously given
birth to Eleanor GORDON 21 Sept 1852 (father was
George Augustus
Gordon) - no record of any marriage between them. (Why didn't
they marry - Did he live in NSW? Was he passing through? Were they
too young? Was he already married?)

William YOUNG (listed as Master Mariner) married widow Catherine DOYLE (nee Catherine MURRAY) in Hobart in 1881. Their child William Leslie YOUNG was born on 14 April 1881. Apparently William YOUNG (dad) was lost at sea three months before William Leslie was born - or so the family story goes!. (No details of sea disaster however). Catherine was first married to John DOYLE and their children were Elizabeth Ellen Doyle 1864, John Bernard Doyle 1866, Mary Catherine Doyle 1868, Susanna Jane Doyle 1870 and Laura Monica Doyle 1873.
William Leslie YOUNG (a French
Polisher) married Anita Grace ADAMS in New South Wales
and they had three children - Jean Eleanor YOUNG born 24th November
1910 (our Grandma - passed away August 2000 - 89 years) who married
